History

In response to the major oil and gas exploration program underway in the region at the time, Secunda commenced operations offshore of the East Coast of Canada in 1983. Beginning with one vessel providing supply and support services, Secunda grew opportunistically, searching around the world for opportunities to expand and deploy its fleet. Secunda also sought out opportunities to acquire and convert vessels in order to improve its marine assets. Over this period, Secunda also developed its commitment to high quality service, safety and developing a highly skilled and experienced work force capable of operating in the harshest marine environments.

In 1996, in response to the shift from exploration to development and production offshore of the East Coast of Canada, management of Secunda made the decision to significantly upgrade the profile of the Secunda fleet. Given that oil and gas production activities, particularly offshore of the East Coast of Canada, would require vessels with larger cargo capacities, enhanced performance and more exacting maneuverability capabilities, Secunda undertook a planned and gradual rationalization of its fleet. Secunda retired a number of existing vessels and acquired and/or converted other vessels to meet the needs of offshore oil and gas companies.

In July, 2007, McDermott acquired substantially all of the assets of Secunda International Limited. The addition of the Secunda vessels and experienced workforce makes a strong contribution to McDermott's traditional offshore construction business.

The Secunda fleet currently comprises of 14 modern vessels, with large cargo capacities, enhanced performance and more exacting maneuverability capabilities. Through its leading fleet management capability, Secunda has significantly improved the quality of its fleet over the past six years and is keen on continuing this growth with new acquisitions and new markets.
