In May, 1998, Secunda Marine Services (Secunda) became one of the first shipping companies in North America to achieve dual certification to the ISM Code (International Safety Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and Pollution Prevention) and ISO 9002: 1994 Quality Management Systems, by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

In 2002, the QSM System was fully revamped and upgraded; and Secunda has now implemented a new integrated Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental Protection Management System (QSM) which has been designed to comply with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code and the new ISO 9001: 2000 Standard for Quality Management Systems.
